Blackburn Heritage Festival 2014

Travel back in time to see history come to life as we celebrate Blackburn’s proud past and get a glimpse of the future as the town centre is buzzes with the spirit of change and investment. Including steam engines, Victorian fairground, clog dancing, canal trips, history walks, vintage market traders, street theatre, costumes and a pop up bandstand.

History will come alive around Blackburn and Darwen over the Festival weekend. With major events planned in Blackburn Town Centre and opportunities to visit locations around the borough for unique experiences.

Events include:
Blackburn Market’s resident chef, Philippa James talks tripe and black pudding as she showcases traditional products and recipes
The Sparkle Sisters will take town centre cafe, Liz n' Lils, back to the 1940s with their unique musical talents.
Lancashire’s clog dancing expert, Alex Fisher brings Church Street to life with displays of traditional Morris, Step and Clog dancers.
Students from Blackburn College create retro styles from different eras in live demonstrations.
Roll up for all the fun of a Victorian fairground. Ride the gallopers on a full-scale carousel and slide down a Giant Helter Skelter.
Apothecary Bar - A popular attraction at vintage events, weddings and festivals across the UK
Victorian Passport Photo Booth - Our passport photo booth will give you the opportunity to dress in Vintage costumes and take your very own Victorian photograph.

Blackburn Heritage Festival aims to be the biggest Heritage Open Days celebration of history anywhere in the UK, thanks to support from Blackburn with Darwen Council, the Blackburn BID, The Mall – Blackburn, Blackburn Market, local businesses and Heritage Lottery sponsorship. The activities will take place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September 2014 with the whole town coming alive with a range of events.
