Virtual Pub Quiz for the people of Preston

Virtual Pub Quiz for the people of Preston

Dates: 21 Nov 2020 - 21 Nov 2020

Location: Virtual

Remember the old days when we used to go in a pub, congregate with friends and participate in the weekly quiz. For many of us that feels like a world away from the life we’ve had to readjust to throughout 2020. There is, however an alternative format provided during these uncertain times.

‘In Certain Places’ is an  arts- based research project based at UCLAN and  is inviting the people of Preston to actively engage in a free virtual pub quiz.

Appropriate for all ages, there will be a series of local knowledge rounds which will test your imaginative mindset developed through a variety of fun and creative challenges.

It has been designed especially  for those living in the North West regions of Preston, covering areas such as Woodplumpton and Broughton.

Top prize for clever candidates is a hamper of local produce and sweet treats from The Larder, accompanied by a copy of The Lancashire Cookbook.

Charles Quick, Professor of Public Art Practice at UCLAN, explains how it works in the following statement,

“Unlike a traditional pub quiz which tests your general knowledge, this is all about people’s personal experiences of the places where they live and their ideas for how to enhance them. It has been developed by a group of artists, so will involve lots of creative tasks, as well as more mainstream activities, such as a music round. It’s a chance for people to tell us about their neighbourhoods, as well as having fun and, hopefully, winning a great prize.”

The quiz is scheduled to take place this Saturday 21 November via Zoom from 4pm to 5pm. To take part, book a place by following this website link:- https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/north-west-preston-pub-quiz-tickets-128398293753. Please note:- the deadline for registration is Wednesday 18th November.

Upon registration, you will receive a free quiz pack with everything needed to take part, including choice of bar snack.

This event is one of many from the programme ‘Creative Infrastructure Labs’. It’s main concept is to explore  creative approaches to developing community infrastructure, such as sustainable transport routes, play spaces and community centres.

The focus primarily is on new housing developments to the north of the city including the following areas:-
  • D’urton Manor (Story Homes) in Eastway
  • Tabley Green (Redrow) in Lightfoot Lane
  • The Paddocks (Wainhomes) in Sandy Lane.
The quiz is not exclusive to the North West of Preston, the quiz is accessible to all Prestonians, priority will be given however to the North West region.

The pubs may be closed, but In Certain Places, an arts-based research project at the University of Central Lancashire, is inviting people in Preston to take part in a free virtual pub quiz.
