UCLAN Virtual Degree Show - Thursday July 16th 2020

Dates: 15 Jul 2020 - 15 Jul 2020

Location: Online

Are you the parent of a creatively talented son or daughter? If so, you’ll want them to receive an accolade for their achievements. Perhaps in previous years you have attended a degree show in person for your eldest child.

This year, however organisers have been forced to change plans in response to the governments guidelines  regarding COVID-19.

The University of Central Lancashire ( UCLAN) are hosting an historic time in the educational programme.

This Thursday  (July 16th ) you and your family are invited to the first ever Degree Shows Launch and Awards Ceremony completely online.

Those attending will experience a presentation in the same format as the University’s on campus show. It will allow viewers to see  student portfolios and manoeuvre 360 degrees during online tours, enabling them to pause and move around exhibitions at their leisure.

In a similar pattern to the usual layout  of the degree shows, the launch event will feature special introductory speeches by Vice Chancellor Graham Baldwin, Jenny Rutter, Chair of Creative Lancashire and Jane Anthony, UCLAN’S Executive Dean of Culture and Creative Industries.

Throughout the degree show you will share the joy with other parents at receiving the news of the announcements of the student award winners  and for individual work on the day. You will also see a vast selection of student portfolios.

Nominations will also come in the form of the following disciplines:-
  • Creative art
  • Media
  • Design
  • Textiles
In addition, external wards will be given to those that have practiced their skill and have become highly accomplished at it.

Work will also be featured showcasing the extraordinary talents of those on recent graphic design and advertising courses at UCLAN.

Jane Anthony UCLAN’S Executive Dean of the Faculty of Culture and the Creative Industries explains the positive platform the University provides,

“The Degree Shows provide us with an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the creative talent of our students. That talent has been nurtured and supported within UCLAN by a whole host of dedicated and talented staff, all of whom ensure each of our students reach their potential and leave us as creative practitioners”.

The new interactive show has been created by both students and staff from the University’s academic and Innovation Lab teams.

Danny Livingstone, Project Manager for the Innovation Lab team commends the Lab team as they strive to deliver something with real substance and value,

“Both the Innovation Lab and academic teams have used their creative skills to push the boundaries of technology and create a new format for the awards show within a tight timescale. Thanks to their efforts the result now is a truly unique online experience which will showcase the talents of our students off extremely well in these challenging times.”
