Loneliness Does Not Discriminate: Loneliness Across The Lifespan

Loneliness Does Not Discriminate: Loneliness Across The Lifespan

Dates: 13 Feb 2019 - 13 Feb 2019

Location: UCLan - Brook Building, BB008

A leading academic, Professor Pamela Qualter, examines why social relationships matter so much to human beings and why loneliness affects us all. Although we may require different amounts of social contact, we all need others for our survival. This applies as much to children and adolescents as it does for adults. We all benefit from having others in whom we can trust and feel secure with. Even superficial social encounters contribute to our health. The consequences of not having enough social contact are staggering: impacting on behaviour, mental and physical health, as well as academic and career success. The seminar draws upon the findings from the recent BBC Loneliness Experiment led by Professor Qualter, highlighting important ways of tackling loneliness.

This seminar is free to attend. All welcome. Refreshments provided.
