Rewind the clock 40 years ago and you have the 1986 World Cup held in Mexico. An incredible player Diego Maradona took Argentina to a victorious win.

 Maradona played a pivotal role, scoring five goals and assisting in another five, including his famous quarter-final match against England where he scored both the controversial "Hand of God" goal and the "Goal of the Century" after dribbling past five English players.

Players like Maradona come along once in a lifetime. The 2026 World Cup is currently dominating our televisions and players like Maradona may not compete in today’s footballing climate.

However, we can take a nostalgic look at the life and career of the football legend in  a 2019 film – ‘Diego Maradona’ -  ‘Cinema at the Continental’ – Tuesday 7th July – 2026 – 6.50pm – 9.15pm.

It will take place in The Boatyard area of The Continental with an entrance fee of £5.00 – cash only. The documentary is woven together with over 500 hours of never before seen footage compiled down to 2 hours 10 minutes.

Directed by Asif Kapadia he takes football fans on a journey to a football player that had the golden touch and is the perfect backdrop to the current 2026 World Cup.
