Our place of birth can have a deep impact on us. It can recall back to our mind as we reach adulthood and even become the cathartic inspiration for creative writing.
Sophie Tongyu Wu writes about various subjects such as –
- Place
- Nature
- The human condition
- Identity
In her new work of poetry ‘Early Settlement’ she unearths these topics in her first foray into a collection of poems under the name Wutong Rain.
Sophie is from Beijing and graduated with a biology degree in the USA, she currently works at the University of Lancashire. Her works have appeared in The Banyan Review and The Tiger Moth Review. She is a nominee for the Pushcart Prize.
Early Settlement is a meditation on space and on human condition. A line from one of her poems encapsulates the overall mood: "People running in the wind become the wind"
To experience her sharing work from her newly published book, come along to ‘Damson Poets’ – Wednesday September 24th 2025 – 7.30pm -9.30pm –The Continental Pub – South Meadow Lane – Preston.
