Manchester – 1982 before Oasis and The Stone Roses became household names there was one band that caught the eye of the nation. Fronted by the charismatic Morrissey – The Smiths were kings of the indie pop genre for just 5 years till the acrimonious split in 1987.

A year after they formed they released their second single the catchy and infectious –‘This Charming Man’.  It was classic Smiths with the combination of guitarist Johnny Marr’s jangly guitar riff and Morrissey’s miserable lyrics.

Let’s remind ourselves of that upbeat number –

Following last summer’s news of the current reunion of Oasis, music fans wanted to build the same momentum with a Smiths reconciliation. However, this has failed to come to light. The next best thing is a tribute act.

The Smiths LTD are doing the honours for loyal fans of the original band. Formed also in Manchester they strive to recreate the classic sound and they’ll be performing all the hits at The Grand venue Clitheroe this autumn.
