Damson Poets
Dates: 28 May 2025 - 28 May 2025
Location: The Continental Pub - South Meadow Lane - Preston
In 1989 an American coming of age drama film directed by Peter Weir and written by Tom Schulman was released. It was set in 1959 at a fictional elite boarding school called Welton Academy in which English teacher (played by the late great Robin Williams) inspires his students through his teaching of poetry.
‘Dead Poets Society’ was a both a critical and commercial success. It highlighted the strength Williams could show in being a teacher and demonstrated his skills at acting away from his usual goofy roles.
This is a moving scene from the film that empowers the students to get into poetry as he asks the question ‘What will your verse be?’–
The Continental pub on South Meadow Lane may not have Robin Williams to oversee the monthly Damson Poets evening but organiser Terry is hoping for a good turn out on Wednesday 28th May – 7.30pm – 9.30pm in the event space, The Boatyard.
This month they will be welcoming members of the Blackpool & Fylde Stanza Group as they read from their new anthology entitled ‘The Salt Margin’. All of the group will read regularly at Damson Poets so it would be good to support them as well.
Names for performing will be taken at 7.15pm. Each slot is a maximum of 5 minutes. The start time is 7-30 pm. Free Entry.

They will still have the mixture of new and more experienced readers so it’s an evening that belongs to everyone and if you want to listen that’s great too.
