Empowering Women - Champions of Upland Farming

Empowering Women - Champions of Upland Farming

Dates: 07 Jun 2025 - 31 Aug 2025

Location: Clitheroe Castle Museum

You may assume the farming world is all about men driving big JCB’s, shifting hay bales and spreading manure.  But there is also a female lead in the farming industry and a collection of images that highlight the productivity of women in farms is coming soon.

‘Empowering Women – Champions of Upland Farming’ is an exhibition celebrating the pivotal role women play in the success of family farms in the remote uplands of the Forest of Bowland.

It runs from Saturday 7th June – Sunday 31st August 2025 at the Clitheroe Castle Museum. Dedicated to women in farming globally, the exhibition is curated by Tarja Wilson of the Forest of Bowland National Landscape Team, who has worked with farming communities for over 30 years.

Tarja was inspired to create the exhibition after meeting dozens of strong independent women who play an essential role in the family farms they work on. The exhibition will feature portraits, artefacts, interviews and recordings from the Forest of Bowland National Landscape Archive.

Free entry to the Steward's Gallery.

The future of farming rests not just under the men but also for the women, empowering women.
