Mike and the Mechanics

If an artist wanted to service his car he would have called a professional mechanic. But this artist already has a team of mechanics however instead of servicing his car they service his songs.

Mike Rutherford was busy with Genesis yet during a brief hiatus he formed Mike and the Mechanics in 1985. In the early days Paul Carrack was responsible for lead vocals.

It was ten years later in 1995 when the album ‘Beggar on a Beach of Gold’ was released. It featured the number 12 hit ‘Over My Shoulder’. It became their first hit to be co-written by Carrack and was their most aired song on British radio. Let’s remind ourselves how good it really was with the original music video –

The band naturally came to an end in the early 2000’s. They regrouped in 2010 and followed it with a tour. Paul was no longer in the band but lead vocalist is now Andrew Roachford whose most familiar track is ‘Cuddly Toy’.

Now they are back on tour for 2025. They’ll be performing all the classic hits at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall – Hope Street on Monday 24th March from 7.30pm. Tickets are available to book from the following website link –
