Hard Truths

Hard Truths

Dates: 31 Jan 2025 - 31 Jan 2025

Location: HOME - Arts Centre - Manchester

Mike Leigh is one of the most celebrated film directors of his time. Known for his unique improvisation methods of filming his cast and a story that reflects the social realism we can all relate to.

He started out in theatre then devised television plays. Most notably was 1977’s ‘Abigail’s Party’ where he met his future wife Alison Steadman.

From there he progressed to film, creating a dark reality with the occasional comic line. In 1996 he directed his fifth feature film, the powerful drama ‘Secrets and Lies’ starring an ensemble cast, especially Marianne Jean Baptiste in the starring role. It was one of Leigh’s peaks in terms of filmmaking and a highlight in his career.

Now, almost thirty years later he has reunited with Marianne Jean Baptise in a new film with a story that focuses on relationships, families and personal struggles.  ‘Hard Truths’ is set to be another Mike Leigh classic in the canon.

It will be featured at HOME – Arts Centre – Manchester – Friday 31st January. Tickets aren’t available to book yet but if you visit the following website you can find further information about the story and a trailer for the film –
