After a sell-out and critically acclaimed Scottish debut last summer, the Vintage Festival is returning to Glasgow as part of Festival 2014. Festival 2014 is a massive Commonwealth Games time celebration in Glasgow running alongside the sporting action, transforming the city from 19 July to 3 August with an invigorating mix of entertainment, culture and enjoyment filling the streets, spaces and stages of Glasgow.
Vintage will take place in the streets and evocative venues across the Merchant City on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 July, the first weekend of the Games. Set right in the heart of the Merchant City Games Live Zone for the first time ever, Vintage will reach out to embrace and rejoice in vintage music, arts and culture from across the Commonwealth.

We will celebrate being part of Festival 2014, as well as bringing together British music, fashion, film, art, dance, food and design from the 1920s to the 1980s. A one off Vintage Festival that will take us on a voyage of vintage discovery and the team can’t wait to deliver something that will live long in the memory!

The Soul Casino recreates the sounds and style of the classic 70s soul club and 80s disco scenes with DJs Eddie Piller, Mark Linton, Snowboy and Wayne & Jack Hemingway. The Old Fruit Market dance floor will reverberate to the sound of classic 60s Northern Soul and the uplifting ‘Modern’ Soul movements that fused so brilliantly in the early 70s through to the up-tempo Disco sounds of the 80s covering uber cool Jazz-Funk, Boogie, Rare Groove and everything in between.

The Torch Club brings you a glamorous evening of 1930's and 40's entertainment, themed canapés, period cocktails and a wonderful opportunity for all ages to dress up and dance, in a truly immersive atmosphere.
In a packed evening’s entertainment, curated by Snowboy, you will be dancing to The Bratislava Hot Serenaders - one of the world's most in demand and authentic period orchestras, who make a rare UK appearance - playing exclusive sets at the Torch Club in one of Britain's most evocative venues, the Old Fruit Market. You will also be dancing to one of the UK's greatest specialist DJ's, Okay For Sound, who is the authority on dance bands and music from the 30s!
Under the expert tuition of dance teachers and historians, the Fly Right Dance Co, the Old Fruitmarket will come alive as we recreate those packed dance halls of the 30s & 40s. As always, the whole event will be hosted by that cheeky chappie, Viv The Spiv.

Charity Shop DJ has travelled the world collecting the stories behind the music, and he is delighted to be in Glasgow to host Vintage Spins the Commonwealth at Vintage 2014. We are inviting everyone from Glasgow and visitors to the city to join our celebration and add their musical memories to our World Map of Music. We want to unite people across the city through the music they love. Is there a song that makes you happy? A track that gets you dancing? Don’t keep it to yourself – Bring it along and have it played out on stage.
Charity Shop DJ will be hosting some of Glasgow's finest: featuring sets from the legendary Hardeep Singh Kohli - Tam Coyle - The Pretty Ugly Club - GTown Desi - Gerry Hassan (‘Caledonian Dreaming’) - Jean Cameron - and featuring special guests Wayne Hemingway and Bryan Web with yet more to be announced. From raucous rockabilly, to northern soul stompers, to real R & B, disco, wild surf and vintage garage. The 'Devils Music' presents seven inch gems that inspired those late night delinquents that have frequented the true underground scenes of Britain since the birth of rock and roll, and new discoveries from those scenes that still inspire today. Not for the faint hearted this volatile adventure is revved up by the scenes that exploded around it with no sympathy for the mediocre, a wickedly mixed irreverent cocktail guaranteed to leave your hips shaken - Sunday’s will never feel the same again!
Heavily involved in Northern Soul and the development of what he termed "deep funk" - as a DJ, compilation producer, and label operator - Keb Darge's route through a tireless promotion of neglected and forgotten soul and funk from the '60s and '70s began when he was a regular at the Wigan Casino, the epicenter of Northern Soul. By the late '80s, at the height of house music's popularity in the U.K, he was DJing again and started a club night called Deep Funk.. In the early 2000s, Darge put together numerous compilations, including Keb Darge's Legendary Deep Funk, Soul Spectrum, Jazz Spectrum, and Funk Spectrum; he and Wu-Tang Clan's RZA presented a disc each of selections for BBE's Kings of Funk set. He branched out with Lost and Found: Rockabilly and Jump Blues, another two-disc BBE compilation, this time shared with Cut Chemist. The rockabilly and surf series Keb Darge & Little Edith's Legendary Wild Rockers took his love and collecting of rare rockin tunes to a new level A deejay and a fan, Keb Darge presents no nonsense dance music straight up with no pretensions and enjoys himself whilst doing it. ‘The Devil’s Music night at Vintage Glasgow will be LEGENDARY!

VINTAGE HAIR & BEAUTY SALON - Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th July, 10am - 6pm, Merchant Square, Curated by The Makeup School London
The Vintage Makeover Salon will be setting up shop this year in the historic Merchant Square curated by Jacqui McIroy, founder of the The Makeup School London, and expert vintage hairdresser Ariana Marcantorio from Miss Dixiebelle. After a sell out in 2013 they are back with a team of 30 experts to help festival-goers capture the look of their favourite vintage era. For those lucky enough to be heading to the club events, or those who simply fancy seeing what they would have looked like if they had been born in a different era, can choose decade specific makeovers at the Vintage Hair and Beauty Salon.
On the menu are 1940s finger waves, 60s bouffant Beehives, 80s New Romantic curls and high volume waves, matched with the black liquid liner 50s flick and gorgeous red pout. Be prepared to look and feel fabulous, ready for the dance floor at the glamorous evening clubs. And of course there will be a vintage photo booth, from which the transformed can take home memories of their day. The Appointments are on sale in advance this year, so do book to avoid disappointment, you have been warned!

The Vintage Marketplace gathers the finest purveyors of vintage clothes, accessories, mid century modern home wares, records, music memorabilia and up-cycled ephemera. Bringing together couture labels with prêt a porter and street style from the 1920s through to the 1980s.
This year’s Vintage Marketplace, curated by The Vintage Vendors, brings together over 50 hand-picked vintage sellers from Scotland and the rest of the UK. Taking place in the Merchant City area of Bell Street, this open-air market features vintage clothing from the 20s to the 80s, eyewear, accessories, mid-century homewares, ceramics, collectables, kitchenalia and furniture. We will also have vintage food sellers in Candleriggs and a mini classic car boot sale on Wall Street. There’s no excuse to miss out on a bit of vintage shopping!

Vintage has art and design flowing through its veins. Art and design workshops, many of which are free to attend, will offer people the opportunity to get creative. For 2014 Vintage are bringing expert Vintage Tutors, Pea Cooper Hats, Treemendous and are working with Re Fashion at the Merchant City Festival, watch out for more announcements about our workshops and how to participate.

There is food to fit the music and historically linked eating opportunities, not to mention some wicked period cocktails from the bars.
The Vintage food Marketplace will take over the historic cobbled street, Candleriggs, outside the historic Old Fruitmarket. You can browse & buy from the high quality Street Food traders serving up some of the finest street food in the UK, served from genuine vintage wheels! You might even be surprised by our vintage street acts, the 'Kennedy Cup Cakes' and the 'Tea Club', perfect for your Vintage photographs!
