~For the past couple of weeks or so Preston’s people have been enjoying and supporting a painting which reveals elements of the city at the brink of a changing landscape.

A harvest scene in the foreground is in stark contrast to the fast growing industrialised town across the river.

Friends of the Harris have led a public donations campaign to restore the painting to it’s former glory. Thanks in part to the Lancashire Conservation Studios.

Artist John Jenkinson captures the scene beautifully of a by gone era of the early 19th century. Identify the tall chimneys, windmills, the hay stooks and moments of distinction  that are still recognisable in the 21st century.

Visit the Harris Museum and Art Gallery between now and 30th January 2017 from 10am till 5pm. The cost of admission is free. Please note times times differ slightly on Wednesdays and Sundays.
