New Exhibition Neon

~In recognition of the town’s legendary annual illuminations, Blackpool is now opening a new exhibition which celebrates neon lights in all it’s glorious paraphernalia.

Simply titled ‘ Neon :- The Charged Line’ it hopes to highlight how artists have used the gas and light it emits since the 1960s.

Based at The Grundy Art Gallery, the interested public will have the opportunity to experience how neon has been used as a form of line drawing in text, signs, sculptures and installations.

Blackpool became one of the first places to use neon in the UK. The ‘Claudgen’ company designed a series of neons that went on to become the staple point in the town’s traditional illumination parade. These early designs will be shown in a parallel display in the gallery’s upstairs rotunda gallery.

The exhibition is free to visitors of Grundy Art Gallery and will run from Thursday, September 1 to early next year on Saturday, January 7 2017.
