Some bands are recognizable when you hear that one song that defines them. For example, rock band Nirvana’s grunge anthem ‘Smells like Teen Spirit’ or on a lighter note S Club 7’s ‘Don’t Stop Movin’.

It’s true they may have a series of other classics in their canon but there’s always that one song that cements their sound in music history.

Take a band like Toploader. They were able to effectively cover a 1970 song by Boffalongo which was later a hit single by King Harvest in 1972.

30 years after it was originally released Toploader gave it a 2000 makeover and it actually proved to be their biggest hit going worldwide and achieving multi-platinum status in the United Kingdom. It is of course the classic song ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’.

Let’s remind ourselves why it was so good –

Now 24 years later the band are still together and they’ve carried that song with them over their two decade career. They’ll be performing this, other favourites and some new material this winter.
