Sound and Vision - David Bowie Tribute
Dates: 12 Oct 2024 - 12 Oct 2024
Location: Darwen Library Theatre
In a career that spanned over 50 years there was no-one quite like David Bowie. From his early incarnation as the alien Ziggy Stardust to his swansong album ‘Blackstar’, he kept his fans interested right till the very end.
His 11th February 1977 single ‘Sound and Vision’ was taken from the album ‘Low.’ Co-produced by Bowie and Tony Visonti, it features backing vocals from Brian Eno and Visconti’s then –wife Mary Hopkin.
The song’s lyrics are dark and introspective, reflecting Bowie’s mental state after years of drug addiction and provide a start contrast to the music itself which is more joyous and upbeat.
It peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart aided by it’s appearance in BBC television commercials. Music critics and biographers consider ‘Sound and Vision’ one of Bowie’s greatest songs. He performed it only once on his 1978 Isolar II world tour, but frequently on later tours. Remixes of the song have been created in subsequent decades and it has appeared on several compilation albums.
Let’s remind ourselves of that classic hit –
Now 47 years after it was released a tribute band is honouring the single as their act and flying the flag performing some of Bowie’s greatest hits.
‘Sound and Vision’ – David Bowie Tribute will take place at Darwen Library Theatre on Saturday 12th October 2024 from 7.30pm. Tickets are available to book from the following website link – https://bwdvenues.com/whats-on/sound-and-vision-2024/
