Festival of Futures - Imagination, Now and Next

Festival of Futures - Imagination, Now and Next

Dates: 08 Mar 2024 - 08 Mar 2024

Location: Lancaster University

“Libraries gave us power, then work came and made us free”. That was the opening line from Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers when they returned to the music scene following the disappearance of guitarist Richey Edwards.

It was a song that brought new hope and vision to a revitalised band who had come through the wreckage to create something quite brilliant. The April 15th 1996 release ‘Design for Life’ became something of an anthem that everybody could relate to.

The lyrics, the sweeping orchestral moments and the clashing guitars and drums is now an established classic that is a permanent fixture in their set-list.

But there was much more to that song than first listen. It rechannelled the future of the band and gave their fans a desire to potentially work and find joy in the everyday life.

Taking place on Friday 8th March 2024 from 9am – 2.30pm is ‘Festival of Futures – Imagination, Now and Next’ – located at Lancaster University.

The day is all about design now and into tomorrow.  Research based facilities will enable those attending to see the possibilities of design and what it can mean for each and every one of us.
