The Promise

One of the most debilitating conditions to be diagnosed with is dementia. It can affect the way you recall and absorb the world around you. Those you love can become strangers and the condition worsens over time.

Imagine having dementia and also being deaf. You would have to repeatedly ask things as you couldn’t hear then you would forget you would have asked because of the dementia.

In a fascinating insight into both conditions comes ‘The Promise’ a play written by Paula Garfield and Melissa Mostyn. Directed by Paula Garfield in the company’s renowned highly visual style combining British Sign Language and English.

This play helps audiences to understand the complexities of both conditions and how it can affect both the sufferer and the families involved. Hopefully, a greater appreciation is felt upon leaving the centre.
