It’s staggering to think it’s already 7 years since we lost the late great George Michael by the closure of this year.

From his early Wham days to his established solo career, George was a formidable popstar who won countless awards for his time in the music industry.

Let’s rewind the clock 20 years before his death to 1996 when he released his third studio album ‘Older’. From it came a series of pop, R&B, jazz fusion and soul classics.

The dance –pop single ‘Fastlove’ was released 22nd April 1996 and became a number one hit song. Most notably for the sample of the 1982 single ‘Forget Me Nots’ by Patrice Rushen. The music video was directed by Vaughan Arnell and Anthea Benton and was nominated for the video category at the Brit Awards and three MTV Video Music Awards in 1996. It eventually won the International Viewer’s Choice Award – MTV Europe.

A year after George’s death came a tribute act who kept the look and sound of George down to the infinite details.

Rob Lamberti is ‘Perfectly George’. He’ll be performing old school Wham classics as well as some solo George tracks on Friday 17th November 2023 at the Blackburn King George’s Hall from 7.30pm.
