Floating Earth at Royal Albert Dock

Dates: 28 Apr 2023 - 18 May 2023

Location: Liverpool

The planet earth is a beautiful thing. When you consider all the countries situated on it the mind boggles.

Think of all the European countries that come together for one evening. Yes, the Eurovision Song Contest is approaching rapidly. The Liverpool city centre (this year’s host) has a number of events in the run up to the highly anticipated showcase.

Artist Luke Jerram has created a majestic art piece simply titled, ‘Floating Earth’. He has used detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface to provide visitors with the opportunity to see our planet floating gently in three dimensions - creating Liverpool’s most incredible backdrop.

Please watch this short film in advance of the installation –

The 10 – metre artwork will shine brightly in the dock from 28th April – 18th May 2023. Visitors can view the installation daily from 12-10pm for free, accompanied with a soundscape by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones. Sensory-friendly viewings, without the soundscape, are available on Sundays.

This is just one of many events scheduled to take place in the run up to the grand final. Other events include Ukrainian food and drink, live music and other creative pop-ups.

As Liverpool prepares itself for the arrival of the spectacular Eurovision Song Contest this year, Royal Albert Dock Liverpool has revealed the first of its celebratory events to mark the occasion, one which promises to dazzle and delight both local and international visitors.
