In 1989, the Manchester music scene was immersed in the indie genre. However, another cultural movement was occurring, the popular rave and dance vibe.

Future mates Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands shared an interest in medieval history at the University of Manchester but they also shared a much greater interest in raves and club going, especially the Fac 51 Hacienda.

These friends became, ‘The Chemical Brothers’ and were the trailblazers in big beat genre to the forefront of pop culture. Their live sets are simply amazing combining hit after hit as they mix their music in a sophisticated DJ approach.

Let’s remind ourselves of this dynamic duo with the music video to the second single from their second album 1997’s ‘Dig Your Own Hole’ – the bombastic ‘Block Rockin’ Beats’ -

It was during their incarnation that DJ Graeme Park came on to the scene. Graeme is a celebrated DJ with over 3 decades on the decks, on stage and on the radio. Much like The Chemical Brothers he found himself drawn to the excitement of The Hacienda.

He shares a stage with Tony Cannon as part of ‘Unlocked’ on Saturday October 14th 2023 – 7pm – 11.55pm at The Continental pub on South Meadow Lane – Preston.
