Spotlight on CCG Members - Jileshan Saha - February 2023

Feb, 1 2023

An unfortunate childhood does not always mean a pre-destined doomed adult-life. This month’s ‘Spotlight on CCG Members’ is evidence that you can overcome any hurdle in life to achieve greatness. Let us discover more about Nepal based Jileshan Saha.

In his youth he was a crippled boy. However, his kind caring father made him a pair of wooden crutches. From that moment, his life changed.

Inspired by his own weakness he sought to educate others around the concept of disability, especially women and the people of Nepal.

As time progressed Jileshan got involved in social activism and campaigned for social reforms highlighting discrimination and promoting the right to work for people with disabilities. He also taught others in a home environment and in a school setting.

For over two decades he educated those desiring to learn in Nepal and he is developing his teaching methods by enrolling on a course at Flinders University South Australia.

In 2022 he was awarded the Australia Awards Scholarship to further his studies. He continues to inspires others and educate many disabled people by giving them hope and the strength to carry on.

Jileshan is as truly amazing young man who has overcome many hurdles and barriers in life to become an educator, a social activist and equality, diversity and inclusion campaigner.

Tirelessly he supports the marginalised and disenfranchised in society. Jileshan promotes the value of education, lifelong learning and active citizenship.

He concludes with these moving words of hope to encourage anyone who wishes to embark on a similar journey as Jileshan,

“Many have said in the past, I am a source of inspiration to hundreds, if not thousands of young people in Nepal.

I stand, and have been standing, I speak and have been speaking, transforming the lives of the marginalized, the abled and the disabled people of Nepal.

I'm very thankful to the Australian Government and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for providing this life-changing opportunity.”
