~If anyone has been at the hands  of the benefits agency then you’ll know exactly what this film is about.

Directed by Ken Loach whose previous credits include the 1969 classic Kes and the recent Irish success with 2006 film The Wind that Shakes the Barley,  comes this moving and inspiring film about one man’s plight to shake up the benefits agency and the very people who are the victims of neglect in the modern age.

With a screenplay written by Paul Laverty, ‘I, Daniel Blake’ captures the very times we sadly live in an astonishing story of triumph over  adversity in the 21st Century.

The film will be shown as part of Learning Disabilities Week at The Mitchell and Kenyon Cinema, Foster Building UCLAN, Preston on Friday 23rd June from 3-6pm.

The cost of admission is completely free and all are welcome. In addition there will be a series of informative stalls that link with the films narrative and a panel of experts will be present  as part of an in- depth question and answer session.

Please be aware that The Foster Building car park is currently under construction so please could you park either in Hope Street or around the University campus.

For further information or any access needs please contact the DFN team on 01772 558863 (Extension 2) or email des@disability-equality.org.uk

Please note :- the film does contain strong language and is only suitable for persons 15 years or more.

Here is a quote from the 2016 film to give you a sense of what to expect on the 23rd June :-

“Listen, I've had a major heart attack. I nearly fell off the scaffolding. I wanna get back to work, too. Now, please, can we talk about me heart? Forget about me arse, that works a dream”

Experience just over 90 minutes of a film that captures the hearts of a nation plagued by worries of employment, ill health and dealing with the benefits agency. It’s a  modern classic in a troublesome world.

I, Daniel Blake, 3-6pm Friday 23rd June 2017 Mitchell and Kenyon Cinema, Foster Building, UCLAN, Preston.
