~For  those of us that can remember the 1960s and early 70s we may have been caught up in the frenzy of Beatlemania or the fascination of the late great David Bowie. There was, however,  another wave of creative works being done at this time, and it didn’t involve music.

Following in the footsteps of Lucienne Day, Barbara Brown became known as the golden girl of Heal’s Fabrics in the 1960s and early 1970s.

She was discovered as a student and went on to create designs for furnishing fabrics as the most standout and unique from the last century.

She has won several awards from the Council of Industrial Design and now the people of Manchester can experience a brand new exhibition which runs from 17th March - 3rd  December 2017.

Her work will be on display at The Whitworth Art Gallery which is based at The University of Manchester on Oxford Road. It marks her first major solo exhibition of her work in the UK so if you’re a fabric fan make sure you pay  a visit to The Whitworth.
