What's Social Action?

Social action projects are carried out by individuals or groups of people working together for the good of others and not for profit.

The objective of the project is to bring about social change that will benefit an individual, communities or society. It could be creative, social, environmental, digital, scientific - that's up to you. All it takes is a spark of an idea and ACTION! We'll be adding projects we love to our facebook page, click to find out more...

You can see more about social action projects here  from the British Council Active Citizens programme

Who are we looking for?

Anyone over 18 who lives in the PR, LA, BB, & FY postcodes
It’s that simple.
From emergent to experienced, new dog to old trickster, from social practitioner to community worker, from scientist to electrician to creative to technologist to office worker to nurse to passionate supporter, and everyone in between - all you need is to want to make social action happen.

How much time will it take?

All we need from you is 5 days of time before the end of January, and you'll become part of the global Active Citizens programme run by the British Council. If you want to go further, work with us for a few months in whatever time you have on your own project (up til June), & you can access key development workshops like marketing, H&S, budgeting, events, & we'll put together a package of support from seed funding to mentoring to bidwriting support to help you put their project into action.

What will it involve?

Part 1 – Active Citizens - British Council Programme
A series of workshops to develop skills and ideas. Initial Workshop 2nd & 3rd November. Other dates to be determined by the group until end January 2019.
We are recruiting widely for this part of the Social Action Lab, so unless you don’t meet any of the criteria, you’ll be offered the opportunity.
Through a pitching process developing skills, we will formulate your support package including space, mentoring, training, r&d seed funding, and .funding bid development support
Part 2 – Skills Development
A pick & mix selection of targeted workshops across events management, budgeting, social action, marketing, evaluation, fundraising, and other skills as determined by the portfolio of projects. This will include a field trip to see other relevant social action projects for inspiration.
February – April 2019
Part 3 – Taking Action
Through a final pitching round, we will determine seed funding, assign you a specialist mentor, and support you to take your projects through a funding process and to take action.
