~~Most of us go to the dentist and perhaps take it for granted the years of research and study undergone on behalf of the dentist. This month’s ‘Spotlight on CCG Members’ specialises in dentistry and is appointed as  Clinical Pro-Vice Chancellor at the University of Central Lancashire. With many years of experience we hope he can share his knowledge and craft to the CCG, welcome St. John Crean.

In regard to his dentistry background, John previously worked as an Executive Dean of the Faculty of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences and has held the roles of Director of Dental Research and Knowledge Transfer, and Dean of the School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education.

This gave him the required skills and confidence to be able to build productive networks and relationships with key stakeholders in order to ensure that the University is able to implement new and innovative opportunities in clinical health business, education and research. He supports the Vice-Chancellor and Senior Executive Team by leading the University's continued growth and development of its provision in these areas with support from the Executive Deans.

Out of the University environment St. John is an Honorary Consultant at Blackpool Victoria Hospitals Trust and the University of Morecambe Bay Hospitals Foundation Trust.

St. John’s depth of understanding and appreciation about medical studies finds him researching many subjects around this area. This includes safe management of medicalised patients in dentistry and the role of oral bacteria in systemic disease, with a focus on neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Now in 2018, St. John is the Robert Bradlaw advisor in the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and Editor-in-Chief of the Faculty Dental Journal (FDJ). His many years of experience and continuous research in his field of interest finds him holding the recent post of President of the Northwest Branch of the British Dental Association and Chairman of the Fylde Section.
Professor St. John Crean we humbly acknowledge you as a credited member of the CCG.
