~Music lessons at secondary school were designed to enable the students to learn how to identify notes and potentially read music. All good in theory but when the teacher hands out instruments per table you can imagine what chaos that would bring!

That was a period of our past we long to forget  but as adults there is an interactive music group that bases the ideology of the typical music lesson at school where anyone at any ability can pick up an instrument and basically have a go. The difference however is that this group is organised and has specially chosen tracks to play to each session.

Preston Scratch Band typically meets on the first and third Saturday of each month, September to May. The next session is on Saturday 21st September between the hours of 11am - 1pm. The group meets at UCLAN’S Media Factory Room ME226.

On the 21st members can expect to experience playing to ‘Imagine’ as well the following three tracks:-

  1. Space oddity
  2. Hallelujah
  3. You’ve got to hide your love away.

Plus many, many more. The group provide books giving the lyrics, melodies and chords.

Please note:- if you want to bring children to the session they must be accompanied throughout by a responsible adult.

No booking is required and it is free to participate, organisers though encourage donations if your able to.

Bring your instrument, bring your voice, or use the provided percussion instruments. Preston Scratch Band is an opportunity to play popular songs in a welcoming and accessible group where the emphasis is on having a good time rather than strictly getting all the notes right:-
