~If you, or someone you know has a mental health problem the best thing you can say to them is ‘never give up’. Your sympathetic and sensitive concern for them will stay with them probably for the rest of their lives.

But there’s something else you can do. Mark Love is an artist and Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist at Guild Lodge in Preston. For the past thirty years he has devoted his time, energy and resources in using creativity to improve mental health.

If you are a carer for someone with an enduring mental health problem you too can help them maintain a level of stability by encouraging them to get involved in local community work, in particular art.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, Mark will be delivering and developing a talk on the theme :-“Creativity & Mental Health: Sharing experiences and art workshop from Guild Lodge”. It will take place  this  Tuesday 14th May at The Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston between the hours of 1pm -4.30pm. Admission is completely free just come with a desire to learn and improve yourself.

Here is the complete iteinery:-

 Talk (Discover Preston) - 1pm - 1:45pm
Joining Mark will be Simon Wess a fellow artist and tutor from Guild Lodge. Together Mark and Simon will give a talk in Discover Preston on their work with time for questions at the end.

Practical workshop - 2:30pm - 4:30pm
Mark and Simon will be delivering a practical art workshop in the Harris Education Room for anyone who would like to try out their techniques.

Please note: you will need to book places for the talk and practical workshop separately. Guild Lodge is situated on the outskirts of Preston and is a secure mental health unit. It provides excellent care, treatment and rehabilitation for people with complex mental health needs.

Mark is a valued member of the team at Guild Lodge. He has experienced both the positive and negative aspects of using art as therapy and he’s seen first hand the progress of some of his clients who have learnt from his teaching.
