~It’s good to know that racial equality is something the UK promotes and, as October is Black History Month it seems fitting to have UCLAN as  host, as each year it enrols many black students on courses to fulfil their potential and their long term career goal.

One of those students is Jade Montserrat. Jade recently completed a PhD in English Literature. The skills and knowledge she has gained has helped her speak openly about her  race and culture.

Black History Month - In Conversation :- ‘Contagion’ with Jade Montserrat, Wednesday October 31st 4-5:30pm at UCLAN’S Livesey Exhibition Space, Livesey House, Preston House will see Jade speak assertively about a subject that is close to her heart.

Here are several facts which make Jade both a unique speaker and a accredited individual :-

  • Her PhD is funded by the Stuart Hall Foundation
  • It is supervised by 2017 Turner Prize winner Lubaina Himid MBE and Professor Alan Rice from the UCLan’s IBAR
  • She on the board of trustees at Crescent Arts, Scarborough, where she was a studio holder from 2011 – 2014.The Executive Director of the Stuart Hall Foundation Hammad Nasar is the VIP guest attending.

The event itself  will be opened by the Deputy Vice - Chancellor in which he will address a pledge for the University's strategies for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The Equality and Diversity Staff Networks (BAME, Disability, LGBT and Women) chairs and members will be attending the event and will take this opportunity to invite staff to become members of these Networks.

The event is free but you need to book tickets by registering on the following website :-https://www.uclan.ac.uk/news/events.php. Follow the links to the correct date and you will see this event.
