~Since March 2000 a popular daytime show has been entertaining viewers with it’s quirky take on the local set of antiques in the area. The format introduces two teams of amateur collectors who must scour antique fairs looking for bargains.

Now nearly twenty years later, ‘Bargain Hunt’ is coming to the city of Preston in the hope of finding some antique gems to show to the dedicated fans of the programme.

Last week (June 25th ) the production team visited The Harris Museum and Art Gallery to feature Preston cotton manufacturers Horrockses Fashions.

Horrockses became a popular ready-to-wear fashion brand in the 1950s. Known for  the following three subjects:-

  • Quality cotton fabrics
  • Cutting-edge textile design
  • Couture styling

Their dresses were worn by the Queen and often featured in top fashion magazines.

The show will primarily focus on the ex-employees of Horrockses, local vintage enthusiasts and design historian Chris Boydell, who wrote Horrockses Fashions: Off-the-Peg Style in the 40s and 50s.

The episode is due to air this autumn.
