~At this time of year many couples are planning festive occasions with friends and family. Everything is going fine. The children’s presents have been bought, the work’s do has been organised and the relationship between couples has never been better. Of course what I’m describing occurs in a perfect home, in  a perfect world. Sadly, a calm conversation between two people can erupt and become much more heated when fists come into play.

On Wednesday 4th December 2019 you are invited to ‘Ask Me :-A Community Mobilisation Intervention for Domestic Abuse and Violence’. It’s a forty minute programme which initiates at 3pm and concludes at 3.40pm. The session will take place at UCLAN’S Brook Building, Room BB140.

'Ask Me' is an innovative community mobilisation intervention developed by Women's Aid Federation England (WAFE) that aims to make DVA visible within communities and to provide early support to those experiencing DVA.

The concept behind the intervention is to train community volunteers these could include the following three groups:-

  • Hairdressers
  • Shop assistants
  • Church members

They would later serve as Ask Me Ambassadors.

These Ambassadors are expected to share their learning within their social networks and challenge stereotypes and victim-blaming attitudes within their community. This evaluation focuses on three sites:

  1. Nottingham
  2. Sunderland
  3. Surrey.

This paper provides an overview of methods  and findings related to who is recruited as Ambassadors, changes in knowledge, skills and confidence and activities carried out by Ambassadors post training.

All are most welcome to the session and refreshments will be provided.

Please note:- the event is free to attend but you will have to register via the following website address:-https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/connect-centre-seminar-tickets.
