~For a considerable period of time arts and crafts have dominated idyllic shops in villages and town centres and have been displayed during the peak shopping season at Christmas.

Rachel Joyner of RJArts is hoping to change all that. In a new innovative approach Rachel’s vision is to bring arts and crafts to Preston’s pubs and she is reaching out to stallholders who can assist in this exciting new idea.

It will begin with a creative area displayed at The Black Bull in Fulwood on Easter Sunday. A similar event took place towards the closure of last year.

Rachel explains this forward thinking approach as well as her ambition to see this implemented further in local pubs up an down the Lancashire region,

“I am looking for a new way to reach customers, and using pubs is proving popular as they are keen to open up what they offer to their customers. The aim is to enhance people’s experience at the pub, as well as maybe bringing in a few more customers. For stallholders, it’s got the added bonus of being in a pub, which has got to be a better experience than an average craft market! My aim is to generate enough interest from locals and businesses so I can organise further events around the north west.”

Rachel’s markets are open to local artists, makers and authors, and a limited number of stalls are still available for the Easter Sunday event. There’s a £15 fee per stall, and a £15 deposit that is refundable on the day.

The event can be summarised in the following three ways:-

  • Opportunities available for all including performing artists.
  • Only one person per style will be signed up to avoid competition on the day.
  • Anyone can participate who is involved in the arts who feels their skills can enhance the overall success of the market on the day.

Can you contribute to bringing  arts and crafts to Preston’s pubs? Come along to the day with something to offer to the local people of Preston.

The next RJArts Arts and Crafts Market will take place at The Black Bull on Sunday 21 April from 11am to 5pm. To find out more simply visit RJArts website.
