~Definition of the word ‘refugee’ :- a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.

It seems fitting then that both refugees AND asylum seekers have found a safe environment in Preston where they can actively contribute their love of culture to the city.

On Saturday June 22nd ‘An Evening of Global Entertainment’ will take place at People’s Production Lab on 55 Guildhall Street, Preston. It will begin at 6pm and conclude at 9pm. It’s an opportunity to appreciate the local talent provided by refugees and asylum seekers and highlights how we should never underestimate those from poorer backgrounds.

Spoken word poet Naveed Ahmed will be performing his established poetic works to an appreciative audience. Naveed has spent the last 5 years in the charity sector and has been featured on national television. Organisers are delighted he’ll be attending and working his magic.

Tickets for the event are priced at £5 for adults and £3 for children. You can register your interest by logging onto www.eventbrite.co.uk

Refugee Week is a UK-wide festival of arts, cultural and educational events celebrating the contribution of refugees and promoting understanding as to why people seek sanctuary.

With thanks to the People's Production Lab for hosting the evening.
